Ryan Moore busting cool sartorial move

Ryan Moore has been displaying his sartorial magnificence at the Masters this week, on Thursday wearing a powder blue tie and white shirt with sleeves rolled up, black pants and two-tone black and white shoes. It is kind of refreshing, and of course he can do this because he is not under contract with any clothing makers – those folk responsible for the ultra-neat polo-shirt, pleated-khaki uniforms worn by nearly ever other golfer on the planet. The last time I saw a player wearing a tie at Augusta was Ben Crenshaw in 1995. He was on the practice green hitting a few putts. But he was wearing a striped tie and white Brooks Brothers button-down shirt because, as it turned out, he was waiting for a car to pick him up and take him to the airport where he would be headed back to Austin for the late Harvey Penick’s funeral. Crenshaw returned the following day and ended up winning the tournament that year.

Moore began Saturday’s round with two birdies to move to four-under for the tournament. It’s nice he’s playing well, otherwise he might appear to be just another guy who is drawing attention to himself precisely because he has no game to speak of. He has plenty of that. Golf needs a lot more guys like him.
